Promoting British Values
At Livingstone Primary School, we are proud to serve a vibrant community. We recognise the multi-cultural, multi-faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. Our children come from a range of cultural and faith backgrounds, and we see this as a strength. We work hard to ensure that every child feels safe, valued, and respected, and that no individual or group is ever exposed to intimidation or attempts to influence them inappropriately.
British Values are woven throughout school life and help our pupils grow into confident, responsible and caring young people. These values are taught explicitly and modelled daily by staff and pupils.
Democracy: Children learn about democracy by taking part in school council elections, regular school council meetings and pupil voice activities.
The Rule of Law: We help children understand the importance of rules in keeping everyone safe and happy. This includes clear school rules and behaviour expectations, consistent praise and consequences, opportunities for children to take on responsibilities across the school, visits from the fire service, police, and Safe Squad.
Individual Liberty: We encourage children to make positive choices and to express themselves confidently. This is supported through celebrating individual rights and personal achievements, a strong culture of respect and trust between staff and pupils, an active anti-bullying approach ad opportunities for children to share their ideas and opinions. Children learn that their voice matters and that they have the freedom to make safe, responsible decisions.
Mutual Respect: Respect is at the heart of our school community. We promote it through assemblies and class discussions, clear expectations around behaviour, a curriculum that teaches and models respectful relationships and effective teamwork in pairs and groups. Children understand that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and consideration.
Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs: We celebrate the diversity within our school. Pupils learn about different religions, cultures, and worldviews through curriculum lessons, assemblies and celebrations, open discussions where children can share their own beliefs. Children develop a strong understanding that people may have different faiths, backgrounds, or additional needs and that everyone is equally valued.
