Forest School
We are fortunate to have a dedicated Forest School site within our school grounds, providing children with regular opportunities to explore, discover, and learn in a natural outdoor environment. Mrs Davies and Ms Sellers are both fully qualified Forest School Leaders, ensuring that every session is safe, engaging, and rooted in the Forest School ethos.
Each week, children in Reception spend time at Forest School, where they develop confidence, curiosity, build resilience and independence through hands‑on experiences as well as gain a deeper understanding of the natural world. Forest School runs all year, regardless of the weather meaning that activities will vary with the seasons and changes in weather. Following the Forest School ethos, children are able to choose the activities that they will participate in on our site. Activities might include creating leaf crowns, crafting stick dogs and broomsticks, learning to tie simple knots, hunting for minibeasts, observing and tracking the animals that visit our site, building stick men and designing shelters for them and making bird feeders and nests. Children also enjoy working with natural materials such as clay to create tree‑spirit faces and small woodland characters, encouraging imagination and fine‑motor skills.
Outdoor learning continues into Year 1, where Forest School becomes closely linked with the wider curriculum. Children explore animal habitats and seasonal changes as part of science, observe the landscape and natural features for geography, and take inspiration from artists such as Andy Goldsworthy to support their art and design work. These sessions enrich classroom learning, helping children make meaningful connections between the natural world and the subjects they study.
